DSM-IV TR for the Addictions Professional: Aging and Disorders of the Elderly

TARGET AUDIENCE:
Nurses, Counselors, and other interested Health Professionals

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
• This is a six-hour training aimed at providing an introduction to Aging and Disorders of the Elderly for the counselor, nurse, or other professional
• This course directly relates to the domains of assessment, counseling, case management, client education, and professional responsibility, with a specific substance abuse focus.

OBJECTIVES: (Behavioral Terminology)
Upon completion, the learner will be able to identify:
1. Major theories of Aging and Disorders of the Elderly;
2. Signs and symptoms of Aging and Disorders of the Elderly
3. Health consequences of Aging and Disorders of the Elderly;
4. Appropriate assessments, interventions, professionalism, and supportive measures such as case management and client education for the professional who is caring for the chemically impaired individual;
5. The underlying neurobiology of Aging and Disorders of the Elderly, as applies to professional self-care and the provision of care for chemically-impaired individuals;
6. Evidence based interventions that can be applied in private and professional settings.
